SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Only works submitted by KPU students, or including KPU students, will be considered.

ALL EMAILS MUST BE SENT FROM YOUR STUDENT ACCOUNT— THANK YOU.

LITERARY SUBMISSIONS

Each submission should be an individual attachment titled “Author’s Name, Title of Work.” The author’s name and page number should appear at the top of each page. In the body of the email, please include the following information for each piece:

  • Your name as you would like it to appear in print
  • A short biographical statement, no more than 100 words, that includes your program and year of study if applicable
  • Contact information for payment purposes:
    • Full legal name
    • Phone number
    • Address

Prose

Prose submissions should be sent to Stephanie Davies at prose.pulpmag@gmail.com. We will consider all genres of well-written, well-edited prose pieces of 5000 words or less, or 2 pieces of 1500 words or less. Submissions should be typed in Times New Roman, 12pt font with standard 1” margins. Each submission should be an individual attachment titled “Author’s Name, Title of Work.” The author’s name and page number should appear at the top of each page.

Poetry

Poetry submissions should be sent to Zach Allan at poetry.pulpmag@gmail.com. We will consider up to 5 poems per submission. Each poem should be sent as a separate attachment. Each submission should be an individual attachment titled “Author’s Name, Title of Work.” The author’s name and page number should appear at the top of each page.

Poems should be formatted exactly as you would like to see them in print.

 

ART SUBMISSIONS

Please submit high-quality photographs of your orignial work. WE DO NOT PRINT JPEGS. We do not accept cell phone pictures. Please share files via dropbox to https://www.dropbox.com/request/4VMLArlUoYUeqUbxCgRS . An image size of approximately 10×8 is ideal. Good lighting and proper cropping is necessary. If you are unable to document your work, please contact pulp MAG to arrange for assistance. Please also include the following:

  • Your name as you would like it to appear in print
  • A short biographical statement, no more than 100 words, that includes your program and year of study if applicable
  • Contact information for payment purposes:
    • Full legal name
    • Phone number
    • Address

 

Art

Visual art submission files should be uploaded to the drop box. Email Alison Curtis at art.pulpmag@gmail.com to submit all other required info (see below) and to request a confirmation that your submission was received.  We will consider up to 5 works per submission. Please upload your submission as a zipped folder if submitting multiple images. Each image should be an individual attachment titled “Artist’s Name, Title of Work.” In the body of the email, please include the following information for each piece:

  • Artist’s Name
  • Title of Piece
  • Original size
  • Medium
  • Year
  • If you would like your piece to be considered for the cover
  • A short biographical statement, no more than 100 words, that includes your program and year of study if applicable

 

Graphic Literature

Graphic Literature submission files should be uploaded to the dropbox— send an email to pulp at graphiclit.pulpmag@gmail.com with all other required info (see below) and to request a confirmation that we received your submission. We will consider one submission of up to 6 pages. Each submission should be an individual attachment titled “Writer’s Name, Artist’s Name, Title of Work,” or if the piece was written and designed by the same person, “Artist’s Name, Title of Work.” In the body of the email, please include the following information for each piece:

  • Artist’s Name
  • Writer’s Name
  • A short biographical statement of no more than 100 words (two if Artist and Writer are different), that includes your program and year of study if applicable
  • Original size
  • Medium
  • Year

HP REVEAL SUBMISSIONS

With the help of HP Reveal, formerly known as Aurasma, we are now accepting video and audio submissions. The app will allow readers to interact with your pieces by scanning a picture in the magazine, prompting a video to display on their device. We will consider short films, spoken performance, music, animation, dance, 3D installations, and performance art. Videos must be well-edited, with clear audio and video. Submission must also include artwork for print (see below categories for details). All published pieces will be cross-posted onto pulpmag.ca. All submitted work must be in the public domain (this includes music), made with the original creator’s permission, or original to the submitter.

Short Film

We will consider any genre of short film, up to 10 minutes long, including the title and all credits. As a separate attachment, please provide us with a poster or a high quality still from the film to include in the print magazine.

Spoken Performance

We will consider submissions of poetry, monologues, stories, stand-up, and recorded theater up to 5 minutes long. Please include a high quality still or concept art. Include your name as you would like it in print and a short artist statement (100 words).

Music

This includes audio, music videos, and live performances. We will consider one high quality recording per submission. When sending in your submission, please ensure you attach album art, concept art/photos, or professional grade performance photos to be included in print. Also include the names of everyone who worked on the project, as well as a short artist statement (100 words).

 

Animation

Any genre is welcome: stop motion, flipbook, Claymation, digital animation, CGI, flash, etc. We accept videos up to 10 minutes long, including the title and all credits. Please attach a poster, still, or concept art with your submission to be shown in print. Also include a short (100 word) artist statement.

Dance

We will consider any style of dance in the form of professional-grade recording up to 5 minutes long, including a title and all credits. Please state what type of dance you (or your group) is performing in your email, as well as either stills from the performance or concept photos to be shown in print. Also include a short (100 word) artist statement.

 

3D Installations/Performance Art

If you have a 3D installation or performance art you want to submit in the form of a video to the magazine, it can be any medium and can be up to 10 minutes long. Include a 100 word write-up/ artist statement, as well as a photo to be used in print—stills, concept art, and other artwork with the same conceptual theme are highly recommended.
